Since 2020, Lebanon has witnessed the disruption of numerous institutions that once recognised the potential of emerging talent, leaving the inquisitive and engaged works of a new scene of practitioners unsheltered. Launched in partnership with Artlab, the exhibition series is a year-long programme aiming to introduce the public to emerging and early-career artists and collectives, and support practitioners in overcoming the existing barriers to accessing opportunities. Since 2012, Artlab has been scouting talent from the Middle East, and has been functioning as a hub to showcase experimental, avant-garde and engaged art that is new, inquisitive, and unconventional.

CATAPULT.visual’arts culminates into ten, three-week solo exhibitions at Artlab, for which the artists are awarded USD 700 in honorarium and production fees, and are supported by the teams at British Council Lebanon and Artlab with exhibition planning – including in curation and scenography, media and press communications, and soft skills training.
